While waiting for the illustrator to complete the storyboard for The Boy Who Wanted to Fly, I went through my checklist of tasks that needed to be completed before the manuscript and illustrations could be handed over to the book designer.
I decided to include a dedication page, and chose to dedicate this book to my mother for introducing me to the wonder and magic of stories. When I was young, I had a large, illustrated book of fairy tales that my mother would read to me every night. These stories fueled my imagination and led to my love and fascination with picture books. We didn’t have access to a library where I grew up, so the few books we owned became my windows to magical worlds. Some of my most cherished childhood memories are snuggling in my mother’s lap, lost in colorful illustrations, while her voice brought the story to life.
My mother saved some of the classic fairy tale books that were translated into Urdu, my native language. Now, they are back on my bookshelf once more!

Other tasks on my checklist include updating my author bio and photo, as well as writing a book description for the back cover to capture the interest of potential readers. There are many steps and checkpoints that need to be completed before a book can be published!
Wish you the best of luck with your second book! Where did you grow up? I remember my father actually telling us stories from memory. They were a few of my favorite childhood memories. Most of the stories he told were fairy tales. My website will be public soon and I’ll share it!
Thanks, Lillian! I grew up in Pakistan. My father would also tell me stories, mostly Aesop’s Fables, from memory. My mother also made up fun stories while we played make-believe games. Sweet memories!
I’m looking forward to learning more about your book and website. All the best with your launch!

I am grateful for the time and attention I received from my parents. My love of reading and appreciation of books can be traced back to all the stories and quiet times spent in their company.
How wonderful to dedicate your book to your mother. You have her beautiful smile.
